Frequently asked questions.
Call me at (619) 840 7844 or contact me here. In a few minutes I can get an idea of your needs and give you a fairly accurate estimate of your cost. I can set up an appointment to come by your home for a free consultation. When I arrive, we will take the time to discuss your situation, inspect the installation areas, and determine the best solution for you. I bring all the most popular grab bars with me. You have the option of having your bars installed the same day.
How many grab bars should I buy?
Customers usually install two grab bars. One bar is usually installed vertically at the entrance to the tub or shower. This is an area where many slips occur especially when people climb over the side of the tub. A second bar is installed horizontally inside the tub or shower enclosure. This provides a solid hold if you are soapy and wet. This bar is sometimes installed diagonally. I can help you decide which would best meet your needs.
There are two considerations. First is the diameter of the bar. I will bring different bars with me so that you can determine which feels the best in your hand. Second is the length of the bar. The entry bar is usually 18 to 24 inches. The bar inside the enclosure is 24 to 48 inches. We can look at your area and decide which would be the best length for you.
Yes. There are several styles that help keep your hand from slipping when wet or soapy. Some finishes are lightly brushed (peened) and others have a deeper texture (knurled). Others have a gritty feel. I will bring a sample board so that you can try the different finishes before you decide.
I can usually come by your home within a couple of days from your initial call. If you need immediate service, let me know and I will do my best to help you right away. I carry a nice selection of bars with me. You can have them installed the same day I visit you for your consultation.
How much do you charge?
If you take advantage of the GRAB BAR SPECIAL the bars cost $150 each. This includes all materials and labor to complete installation. Fiberglass enclosures present unique problems because of the space between the enclosure and the wall. There is an additional charge of $25 per bar if the installation is in a fiberglass enclosure.
I would be happy to install bars you already have, provided they meet ADA specifications. Click here to check. ADA grab bar requirements. The cost of installation is $115 for each bar into tile. This includes the consultation that we provide when installing our own bars. Make sure you check our specials.
Do you install designer bars?
Yes. I can provide and install custom or designer bars. I have access to most major manufacturers.
Grab bars can be installed on drywall, wood paneling, concrete, natural and cultured stone, ceramic tile, and fiberglass. We cannot install grab bars through tempered glass.
Does my grab bar installation require mounting into the wall studs?
Anchoring into a stud is the ideal mounting method. It will always provide the most secure anchor. However, when a stud is not available we use special mounting hardware that complies with the ADA requirement that the bar support 250 pounds.
Do you install grab bars in areas other than bathrooms?
Yes. Grab bars can be helpful at doorways, at the bedside or in the kitchen. Some people find them helpful at the top of the stairs or coming in from the garage. We will help provide safety wherever you may need it.
Who does the installation?
I do all the installations myself. I do one thing and I do it right.
